"Life Is So Cruel But We Have To Live It..."

Yesterday I was walking around the school compound during break time so as to get informed of what was taking place within the school. As always, it is my responsibility to ensure the security of all teachers and pupils within the school. It is also my responsibility to ensure that everything is running smoothly and that the needs of every member are met.

In this process, I came across these two kids at the back of the classroom.

Charity Jamenya who is the sister to the young boy standing besides her crying for and beating her up.

I just decided to sit right next to them and immediately the little boy stopped crying. I knew the brother was crying for food even before I asked...

Jamenya was in a desperate mood. She looked gloomy and helpless at the moment. I really felt sorry for her more that even the young boy who was crying besides her.

I then decided to ask Jamenya in a kind and polite way, "what is the baby crying for?" Jamenya was a bit reluctant to talk. I then I then held her by the shoulders and let her feel that I was concerned about what she was going through.

A bit reluctant, Jamenya then decided to speak. She told me that the young boy who is her younger brother was actually crying for food.

On enquiring more, Jamenya went on saying that the day before they only took a cup of porridge and slept. They had not taken anything before they came to school.

They were given nothing as they came to school and then it was around 11 AM. They were both feeling hungry.

I felt so sorry as the boy was demanding for something to eat from the little poor Jamenya who was the helpless and hungry.

I then decided to call their mum and ask what was wrong. NOW this one was even worse...the mother talked in a voice that I obviously knew she was crying. She said she had nothing to do as she also walked to work since she had no even bus fare. You know what?

The mother was sent home by her boss of reporting late to work and told to go and sleep then come back the following day. Her hope was that she would curry and share with here children the lunch that she would have been be provided with at her place of work. It never was.

The mother talked a lot that I decided to invite her to come to school but she said she was far by then looking for ways and means to get something to put on the table in the evening.

I remained speechless...

I then decided to buy for the two little kids something to eat and promised them to come to my office during lunch time.

Later in the evening, I bought for them two packets of flour and gave them together with some vegetables that we have grown within the school compound (sac gardening project by the evergreen club).

The two kids live with their mother only. Their father took his belongings and went away leaving the mother together with the kids. It is a struggle. It is a story of its kind. Yes...this life is bitter and unkind but we just have to live it....I remember a story I red some days ago "A Man Must Live".
